Calgary commits to a free community soccer pitch

Calgary is in line for a free-to-use community soccer pitch under a funding commitment announced July 28, 2026. New steel water main hits the two-kilometre mark
About two kilometres of new steel feeder main is now in the ground across 12 work areas in Bowness, Montgomery and Parkdale, part of a Bearspaw South replacement line that will run more than six kilometres. Stage B has 40 steel segments installed along three blocks of 34 Avenue N.W., and Stage A has more than 1,100 metres of steel main placed inside concrete carrier pipe between the Shaganappi Pump Station and 73 Street N.W. The project remains on schedule. Pipe tie-ins are currently estimated to start in mid-October, a stage that would bring Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions plus indoor conservation for roughly four weeks. Cowboys Dance Hall is closing after 30 years
Cowboys Dance Hall, located inside Cowboys Casino, is closing after 30 years. Chinook footbridge removal leaves walkers going around
Residents around Chinook Centre say demolition of the deteriorated pedestrian overpass near 61 Avenue S.W. has stretched out some walking trips in the area. Free Dixie Kings concert at Heritage Park Wednesday
The Dixie Kings take the Music in the Plaza stage at Heritage Park on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, playing from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Engineered Air Gazebo in Heritage Plaza. Admission is free. Bluesfest returns with lane closures on 9 Avenue S.E.
The 22nd Calgary International Bluesfest runs July 30 through August 2, 2026, at The Confluence, 750 9 Avenue S.E. Thursday and Friday gates open at 4 p.m. with music from 5 to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday gates open at noon with music from 1 to 9:30 p.m. Getting there takes some planning: 9 Avenue S.E. is reduced to one lane in each direction, and 6 Street S.E. is closed south of 8 Avenue. Tango 2 Echo doubles to two days and seven blocks
Greenview Industrial BIA's Tango 2 Echo festival and car show runs August 1 and 2, 2026, expanded this year to two days across seven blocks. More than 150 classic cars, hot rods and motorcycles anchor the show, alongside an artisan market, a free kids zone, live music, public-art activities and a new downhill mini-car derby. Design Week Calgary, the city's first design festival, runs August 6 through 8, 2026, at Contemporary Calgary and other downtown locations under the theme In Tune.
